SHE 2003 Acrylic on Linen over Wood Panel
BAVINGTON, Tim

(b. 1966 - London, England) is a painter who creates smartly orchestrated, vibrantly striped abstractions that embody movement and harmony. He uses an airbrush to achieve his controlled groupings of stripes which reference everything from musical tones to bar codes and even ancient Greek mathematics. The artist translates music into stripes, matching the 12 tones of a musical scale with 12 tines from the color wheel, assigning each note a particular color. This painting is meant to be a visual equivalent, or translation, of the Beattles song "She." Critic Dave Hickey describes Bavington's paintings as being about, "That dreamy moment when the world and our idea of it come together in an atmosphere of sensuous abstraction." His paintings are in a sense all translations of different kinds of experiences; critic Regina Hackett describes, "Like advanced equations on a blackboard, these paintings embody a way of thinking about the world and finding a new form for new experience." Bavington earned a BFA from the Art Center College of Art and Design in 1990 and an MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 1999. He has exhibited his work in CA, TX and NV since 1998. 2003.156
