SITE-SPECIFIC INSTALLATIONS
Art created specifically for Progressive

With the completion of Progressive's 630,000 square foot headquarters in 1994 came the opportunity to commission site specific artworks for several large atriums. Progressive began commissioning these major, unique artworks as the buildings were under construction, awarding the commissions to Stephan Dean, Petah Coyne, James Hyde, Jon Kessler, Beverly Semmes and Vik Muniz, many of whom had yet to create such large scale projects in their careers. In 1999, construction on a second Cleveland campus was begun, offering space for additional site-specific commissions, which were awarded to Charles Long and Christina De Paul. Each installation was intensively planned and engineered, taking up to five days to install and requiring scaffolding, cranes, customized hardware and crews of people to complete.
